Third Scrimmage in as Many Days for Mustangs

Photos from Stacie Simmons
On Saturday the Mustangs played their third scrimmage in three days in the state of Utah.  This scrimmage was in Vineyard Ut against the Utah Valley University Club team.  This was the first time that the Lady Wolverines and the Mustangs have faced each other in the fall, all previous encounters were spring scrimmages.

Much like their scrimmages against UVU club in the spring this scrimmage was a physical battle with a lot of midfield one v one play.  A welcome addition to the Mustangs was the return of their All-region keeper Markell Freeman.

The chances were few and far between in the scrimmage for both teams.  In fact, the only goal scored in the 80 minute scrimmage was an own goal scored against WWCC in the 26th minute of play.  The hot conditions and tired legs did not let the Mustangs mount much of a chance of a comeback in the second half.  The final score of the scrimmage was 1 - 0 in favor of the UVU club team.

Mustang Valuable Player: Cassie Southwick - Cassie has shown her versatility and great play throughout the scrimmage season thus far.

Scrimmage Facts: Shots - WWCC 3, UVUC 10; Assists - WWCC 0, UVUC 0; Saves - WWCC 3, UVUC 0; Corner Kicks - WWCC 1, UVUC 7; Free Kicks - WWCC 8, UVUC 9; Cards - WWCC 0, UVUC 1

Up Next for the Mustangs: Friday August 23rd scrimmage versus Westminster College at Salt Lake City UT at 4:30pm
