Western Gets 3rd Victory in a Row with Win over Northwest

On Wednesday the Mustangs tried to remain in second place in the Region IX North while hosting the Lady Trappers of Northwest College at Rock Springs High.

Western controlled most of the first half action but were cautious of the NWC counter attack and speed.  Emma Barnes scored from a Jordan Gibson assist in the 21st minute of play to open the scoring on the day.  The Barnes goal was the only goal to be scored in the first 45 minutes of play for either team.  The halftime score was WWCC 1 and NWC 0.

The Mustangs picked up the pace offensively and started taking shots from a little closer against the Northwest defense and keeper.  These changes seemed to pay dividends.  In the 58th minute Kylee Manning scored with an assist being credited to Maylee Thompson.  The Western defense held strong all game long and would earn their 3rd straight shutout.  Markell Freeman and Lindsey Lemmons would share the clean sheet on the day.  WWCC was not yet done scoring and netted two more goals on the day.  Claire Morales scored for the Mustangs in the 80th minute being assisted by Kaitlyn Pryor.  Maylee Thompson added the final goal on the day in the 82nd minute, Emma Barnes with the assist.  The final score for the match was Western 4 and Northwest 0.  The latest victory bring the Mustang record to 4 - 4 - 0 for the current season and 3 - 1 - 0 in Region IX North play (2nd place).

Mustang Valuable Player:  Claire Morales - for her first ever goal as a Mustangs and great play in the wide areas in the attacking third.
