Mustangs Post First Victory over OJC

On Friday in Green River the Mustangs hosted the Region IX South Leaders, Otero Junior College Lady Rattlers.

Throughout the match the Mustangs were able to create opportunities and take shots on the OJC goal.  The lone goal in the first 45 minutes was scored by Maylee Thompson in the 41st minute off of a great long diagonal assist from Jaden Auger.  The score at the break was Mustangs 1 and Rattlers 0.

In the second half Western dug in and played tough defense to keep Otero off of the scoreboard.  OJC did a great job to find more offense and create some opportunities.  WWCC probably could have made the win easier if they had decided to play more offensively in the second half.  This marks the fourth straight victory for WWCC and fourth straight shutout.  Markell Freeman played all 90 minutes for the clean sheet.  With the victory WWCC improves their overall record to 5 - 4 - 0.  This win does mark the first time in WWCC women's soccer program that the Mustangs have defeated the Rattlers of OJC.

Mustang Valuable Player:  Maylee Thompson for her game winning goal.  Maylee also had three shots on the day.
