On Saturday the Mustangs hosted one of their rivals the Lady Generals of Sheridan College in a Region IX North match up. The match was at Rock Springs High School.
As advertised this game was hard fought with very few chances for either team. Lots of play in the middle of the field with tough defenses and physicality present all over the field. The Mustangs did a great job keeping up their energy with this being their 3rd match of the week. The score after 45 minutes of play was WWCC 0 and Sheridan 0.
The second half was much like the first half with more physical play and few chances in front of goal. Markell Freeman, who played all 90 minutes in goal came up with some big saves especially at the start of the second half. In the 80th minute the scoreless deadlock came to an end. Taya Merrill sent a flip throw into the Sheridan box, Abbie Riley headed the ball to the Sheridan goal. The Sheridan goal keeper mishandled the ball and Kylee Manning was there to put the ball into the net. The one goal is all that WWCC would need for the day. The Mustang defense remained tough the remainder of the half and finished off their 2nd shutout in a row. The second consecutive win for WWCC brings the WWCC record to 3 - 4 - 0 and our Region IX North record to 2 - 1 - 0 (2nd place).
Mustang Valuable Player: Kylee Manning - Kylee put pressure on the Sheridan defense all game long. Her ability to be in the right place at the right time was critical to the WWCC win.
