Western Sweeps Gillette College

On a cold and wet evening the Mustangs hosted the Lady Pronghorns of Gillette College at Rock Springs High in a Region IX North matchup.

The weather was very different from the first time these teams squared off in Gillette but again it was a very competitive soccer game.  WWCC scored first when MaKayla Barnes sent a ball into the penalty area where Kenzie Lucas hit a wonder shot at a tough angle past the GC keeper in the 41st minute for a 1 to 0 lead for the Mustangs.  The halftime score was the same with the 1 goal lead for WWCC.

In the final 45 minutes the play was very close and just when it looked like the Mustangs were going to win by a lone goal the Gillette team was awarded a penalty kick in the 79th minute.  The penalty kick was converted and the match inched closer to a possible overtime period.  In the 85th minute the Mustangs were fouled about 30 yards away from goal.  Emma Barnes took the free kick and nicely placed the ball past the keeper for a 2 to 1 lead.  The Mustang hung onto the 1 goal lead for a 2 to 1 victory.  The win makes the WWCC record to 6 - 4 - 0 and in the Region IX North to 3 - 2 - 0.

Mustang Valuable Player: Emma Barnes - for her match winning free kick and tough play throughout the match.
