Late PK Helps Sheridan Past Western

On Saturday at Rock Springs Junior High the Mustangs continued their rivalry with the Sheridan College Lady Generals in what is a defacto 2nd place match for Region IX North which means home playoff match late in the month of October.

Much like the first meeting between the two teams the Lady Generals started off the match with more focus and more intensity and took an early lead in the match when they scored off of a free kick in the 25th minute, the goal being redirected off of a well places kick.  The lone Sheridan goal was enough for the lead after 45 minutes.

In the second half Western turned up the heat and created many chances which they were just inches away from finishing to even up the score.  Emma Barnes continued her great run of play when she scored another free kick in the 54th minute from about 54 yards away.  The score remained even at one goal a piece until a puzzling call from the official awarded a penalty kick for Sheridan in the 87th minute.  Sheridan was able to convert on the kick and take a late 1 goal advantage in the match.  The WWCC Mustangs could not muster a late match tying goal and lost a very hard fought battle against Sheridan College by a 2 to 1 score.  The overall record is now 7 - 6 - 0 and 3 - 3 - 0 in the Region IX North.

Mustang Valuable Player:  Lindsey Lemmons - did a great job only being scored on by set pieces.
