On Saturday the Western Wyoming Women's Soccer team kicked off their spring season by hosting two 70 minute scrimmage against the Arsenal Soccer Club.
The first scrimmage was a slow start for the Mustangs as it was the first time that the 2017 Spring Soccer team had played outside due to the heavy snow accumulation in Rock Springs. The Mustangs looked sound on the defensive side of the ball but had little luck on the offensive end. A few personnel changes later and some adjustments on the front line resulted in a great offensive punch. Ten minutes into the second half and Kenzie Lucas sent in a nice cross to the back post and found one of our guest players Yridian Cardenas who scored. Five minutes later Yridian again scored for the Mustangs to bring the lead to 2 to 0. This goal differential was enough for the Mustangs. The final score was 2 - 0 at the end of the scrimmage. Rylee Blacker recorded the first shutout in the history of WWCC Women's Spring Soccer.
Two hours later the same teams squared off again. The Mustangs started this second scrimmage with again a lot of possession but not much on the offensive side. About 30 minutes into the scrimmage Clarissa Barton hits a 20 to 25 yard shot to score the lone goal of the scrimmage. The final score was 1 - 0 for the Mustangs. Again Rylee Blacker recorded another shutout for the WWCC Women's Spring Soccer Record books.
Western Wyoming Women's team will scrimmage again on Saturday March 25th in Green River WY at Green River Wolves Stadium (350 Monroe Ave, Green River, WY 82935) at 2pm.
