Katelin Nielson who played for the 2015 Mustang team has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the 2017 Western Wyoming Community College Women's Soccer team.
Katelin is a 2015 Delta High graduate, she hails from Leamington Utah. Nielson took a redshirt season during the 2016 fall to deal with some health issues but is feeling much healthier and ready to play and contribute for the Mustangs in the fall of 2017.
As a freshman for WWCC in 2015 she was a huge contributor. She was voted by her teammates to be a captain of the team. She was also voted as the Workhorse of the year by her peers.
During her freshman year Katelin accounted for 30 Shots, 4 Goals, 2 Assists, 6 Fouls, 19 Starts and 38 Halves Played. She also did very well as a students receiving Honor Roll awards after every semester that she has attended Western. Katelin also earned the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award in the spring of 2016.
Katelin played her freshman year mainly as a forward. Her speed and power made her transition to this position easier then most defensive players. She was primarily a defender in her high school and club career. Nielson is a great team player and would play anywhere including keeper to help the team have success.
We envision Nielson as a vital
member of the 2017 team using her aggressiveness and speed to benefit
the Mustangs no matter where she may play on the field. She could be used as a center back, outside back, midfielder or forward. Her versatility is a plus and will benefit the 2017 Mustangs.
We anticipate that Katelin will graduate in December of 2017. Her tone in training sessions and matches will be a welcome addition for the Mustangs. Western is lucky to have such a superb students and soccer player on the roster again.
