As a freshman at Western Wyoming MKenzie had a wonderful year. Her stats for the season were; 6 Shots, 1 Goal, 1 Assist, 11 Fouls, 14 Starts and 30 Halves Played. MKenzie would have started every match as a freshman if it had not been for an ankle injury that sidelined her for the last couple of weeks of the season. Safford played as a center back and helped the 2015 Mustangs earn 3 shutouts on the season. MKenzie was not only a very capable player for the Mustangs but also a leader on the field through her actions and words. MKenzie has also done a good job in the classroom, she earned a spot on the Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2016 semester.
The spring 2016 scrimmage season helped MKenzie to rehab her ankle injury and continue to improve her skills and positioning. MKenzie showed how well rounded of a soccer player she is as she scored two goals for WWCC this spring. MKenzie scored during the spring 6 v 6 tournament in Cheyenne and again scrimmaging an All Star team on campus directly off of a corner kick.
Western really feels that MKenzie is a key component to Western's success this fall 2016 season. MKenzie will probably play as a center back for the Mustangs. MKenzie has the skills to play most positions for the Mustangs if she is called upon to do so. Congrats to MKenzie for her second year at Western and good luck to Safford and the 2016 Mustangs.
