Britney starting playing varsity her freshman year of high school. She was asked to be a center midfield player or a forward. She did not rack up a ton of stats her first three years as a player, scoring 2 goals and assisting on 4 other goals. But as a senior she scored 10 goals and added 9 assists for the SVHS Lady Braves.
Britney has impressed the WWCC coaching staff with her ability to use both feet, she demands the ball and looks to interject herself and her style upon the match. She is a very athletic, Britney played Basketball and Volleyball also in high school before focusing only on soccer. Merritt is very passionate and committed to whatever she puts her mind to, one example of this is playing the the Powder Puff football game three days after getting her appendix removed. Representing SVHS she was awarded two sportsmanship awards during her senior season. Britney started in the majority of her matches during high school.
Off of the field, Britney was a participate in and place in the Top 12 in the Miss Teen of Wyoming Scholarship Pageant. Merritt loves to sing, she was the President of her choir group on high school, she performed in Varsity Choir for 3 years. Britney and her choir sang the National Anthem at a Utah Jazz game. Merritt is a member of the National Honor Society maintaining very high marks throughout her high school career. Some of her other interests are being outdoors, camping, four wheeling and being at the ocean. Britney says, "I have been taught since I was a kid to work hard and that if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right. I plan to use these lessons throughout my upcoming soccer season. I'm very excited to be playing soccer in college and to be playing for the Mustangs."
We know that Britney will be able to contribute this season for the Mustangs. We see here being able to use her skills and talent in an attacking role. She seems very suited to play either the attacking midfield role or an outside midfielder. We also believe that she could work out very well as a forward. We are excited to have her represent us on and off of the field this upcoming season.
