On Saturday the Western Wyoming Women's Soccer team kicked off their spring season by traveling to Salem Utah to scrimmage the Shooter's Soccer Club.
The first scrimmage was a slow start for the Mustangs as they were ending their Spring Break. The Mustangs just did not have enough movement and too much reaction to what the other team did. Shooter's took a 1 to zero half time lead. The second half was much better for the Mustangs in their movement, passing, attack and talk. Even though it was so much better half it only resulted in goal for the Mustangs after Josie Wiscomb passed to Katelin Nielsen for en equalizing goal. The final score at the end of the match was 1 - 1.
Two hours later the same teams squared off again. The Mustangs started this second scrimmage the same way they ended the first with continued faster play and creating multiple chances in front of the net. However the halftime result was still the same with the Shooters having 1 goal and Western 0. The second half again was owned by the Mustangs and the multiple chances on goal paid off when a guest player (Claire Morales) scored the first goal for the Western team. Minutes later a shot from Melia Dayley was deflected off of a defender's head and into the back of the net for a 2 to 1 lead for the Mustangs. The defense of the Mustangs including Rylee Blacker keeper, Heather Proctor, Josie Wiscomb, MKenzie Safford and Odalis Hernandez played well all day and kept the Shooter from having another chance. The final score was 2 - 1 for the Mustangs.
Western Wyoming Women's team will scrimmage again on Saturday March 19th in Vernal UT at 10am and 2pm.
