Tough Loss to Take in Powell

On Friday in Powell WY, the Mustangs squared off against the Lady Trappers of Northwest College to start off the Region IX Play for the 2015 season.

The Lady Trappers were a very physical team and it took the Mustangs some time to adjust to the style of play on the field.  However with the wind to their backs the Mustangs in the first half dominated much of the play and missed on several good chances at the Northwest goal.  The lone goal in the first 45 minutes was off of a free kick in the 9th minute that the Lady Trappers converted from about 24 yards away.  The halftime score was 1 - 0 in favor of the home team.

With the wind in their face the second half was not as offensive as Western would have liked.  The final goal of the match was scored in the 62nd minute when a Lady Trapper through ball was mishandled by the Mustangs and a Northwest player was there for an easy kick into the net.  The final score was 0 - 2 in favor of Northwest, however the Mustangs played well and did not quit on each other or the game plan throughout the match.  The loss brings the WWCC record to 1 - 2 - 1 on the season and 0 - 1 - 0 in Region IX play.

Mustang Valuable Player: Tobin Niebrugge - Set the tone for us both in intensity and physicality.
