The 2015 Mustangs closed out the fall scrimmage portion of their schedule by traveling to St. George UT to play the NCAA Division 2 Dixie State Red Storm.
The Mustang defense was tested all throughout the match but held strong throughout all of the 90 minutes. The midfield of the Mustangs was able to solidify their positioning and find success with defending, stringing passes together and finding times and places to attack. The forwards with Western used passing and positioning to create space and times to attack the Red Storm. Rylee Blacker again proved that she is one of the top Region IX goal keepers.
There was no score in the first 45 minutes of play. Western Wyo continued their stellar organization and play into the second half. The scoreless deadlock was broken in the 66th minute following a penalty kick conversion from DSU. Two additional goals were added by the Red Storm in the 83rd minute and in the 88th minute. Fatigue of the match and travel caught up to the Mustangs at the end of the match.
The players felt very good about their performance and can see how far they have come in less then a month as a team. They are very excited to continue to improve and found more successes on the soccer field.
Mustang Valuable Player: Josie Wiscomb - For a strong and physical match.
