Offense Clicks in Second Half for Win Against Sheridan

In Sheridan WY on Saturday the Mustangs got their first Region win of the season by defeating the Lady Generals of Sheridan College.

The first part of the first half was not the best soccer that Western had played this year.  Most likely due to the long bus rides and match the day before it took the Mustangs about 15 to 20 minutes before they started playing good soccer.  Fortunately for the Mustangs they were able to keep Sheridan off of the board and the first half ended with better soccer from Western and a 0 - 0 tie.

The second half was much better from the Mustangs from the start.  They applied pressure on the Sheridan defense and connected passes together in the attacking half and attacking third.  The first goal of the match came from Katelin in the 52nd minute when she intercepted a back pass from Sheridan and sunk the shot.  The second goal was in the 84th minute when a MKenzie Safford corner kick was sent to the back post, Rachel Richards headed it back into the middle and Maddie Case easily kicked in the ball from about 4 yards away.  The final score to the match was 2 to 0.  The Mustang defense and keeper Rylee Blacker recorded their third shutout on the season.  The win evens the record for Western this season at 2 - 2 - 1 and a Region IX record of 1 - 1 - 0.

Mustang Valuable Player: Maddie Case - For her first goal as a Mustang and good offensive play.
