#3 LCCC Gets the Best of the Mustangs

On Wednesday at Crossroads Park in Rock Springs WY, the Mustang squared off against the #3 NJCAA ranked LCCC Golden Eagles.  After their first Region IX North win of the year against Gillette College, the Mustangs looked to continue to build on their recent run of good play.

LCCC’s organization, strength and speed made it difficult for the Mustangs to mount much offense and did not communicate well on the defensive end.  This resulted for a bad first half on the scoreboard for the Mustangs as the Golden Eagles scored five goals (13th, 24th, 25th, 38th and 39th minute).  Lindsey Lemmons had 4 saves in the first half.  The halftime score was LCCC 5 and WWCC 0.

After a good halftime talk the Mustangs came out with more purpose and answer and played much better.  This renewed enthusiasm had immediate results as WWCC scored their first goal of the match in the 47th minute when Kenzie Lucas hit a high shot past the LCCC goalie, the Lucas goal was assisted by Madisyn Cantrell.  The momentum swing lasted for 10 to 15 minutes until LCCC scored again in the 63rd minute.  LCCC scored twice more in the second half adding more goals in the 71st and 75th minute.  Madeline Kendrick had 5 saves for the Mustangs in the second half.  After 90 minutes the LCCC team had scored 8 goals while WWCC had only 1 goal.  Western’s overall record drops to 2 – 4 – 0 and a Region IX North record of 1 – 2 – 0.

Mustang Valuable Player:  Kenzie Lucas for her goal and good forward play.
