Clarissa Barton a soon to be sophomore will attend Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista Virginia to continue her academic pursuits and soccer career with the Lady Knights.Clarissa hails from Evanston WY and was a 2016 graduate from Evanston High School. With the Lady Red Devils Barton helped the EHS soccer team to their first ever 4A Wyoming State Soccer tournament berth last spring.
In her freshmen year with Western Wyoming Clarissa totaled 22 Shots, 4 Goals, 4 Assists, 7 Fouls, 21 Starts and 48 Halves Played. She was also voted by her teammates as the Workhorse of the year 2016, awarded to the hardest working player on the team. Barton was also tied with several other Mustangs in 2016 season with the most halves played. Clarissa played in every half during the 2016 fall season.
In the spring of 2017 Clarissa again showed the quality of player that she is on the pitch. Clarissa scored a goal in one of our spring scrimmages in March.
Barton is an excellent student and was named to the Dean's Honor Roll in her first semester at Western, fall 2016. We expect her to receive additional academic honors after the spring 2017 grades are done and are released.
Clarissa will be missed on the Western Wyo Women's soccer team. We will miss her toughness and competitiveness on the pitch. She was truly an anchor in the midfield for the Mustangs in 2016. She could play defense in the midfield while being able to keep offensive possession and include herself and teammates in the attack. The move to SVU for Clarissa will be good for her personally, as a student and as a soccer player.
Barton decided on Southern Virginia University due to their campus atmosphere and student body. Clarissa plans to pursue a degree in English to either be a writer or a secondary education teacher.
We wish Clarissa and the Lady Knights soccer team much success on and off of the pitch. Southern Virginia is gaining a young woman of the highest quality and a very talented soccer player.
