First Official Scrimmage Not a Keeper for the Mustangs

Photos from Stacie Simmons

On Thursday in Price Utah the Mustangs started their official scrimmage season with a great test from the USU-Eastern women's team.  This has become one of the better rivalries for the Mustangs outside of their Region 9 opponents.

All WWCC players except for Markell Freeman made the trip and saw action in the scrimmage, Markell was excused due to a death in her family.

Graisy Greener started in goal for the Mustangs and saw plenty of action in the first 45 minutes.  The Eagles scored four goals before intermission scoring in the 2nd minute, 21st minute, 36th minute and again in the 43rd minute.  The Mustangs scored a goal in the 18th minute when Vanessa DeLeon assisted on a Kylee Manning shot from the corner of the 18 yard box that beat the USU-E keeper into the net.

Karly Conolly played the keeper role for the final 45 minutes of play.  In the second half the Mustangs played much better but could not beat the USU-E defense for another goal.  In the last 10 minutes of play the Eagles added two more goals.  The final at the end of the scrimmage was USU-Eastern 6 and Western Wyo 1.  Shots for the Mustangs were by Lizzy Clark, Kylee Manning, Karly Conolly, Jenna Proctor and Graisy Greener.  Karly Conolly had 3 saves while Graisy Greener made 5 saves.

Mustang Valuable Player: Lizzy Clark - had a great offensive scrimmage including 2 shots.
