McKay Smith will return to play her sophomore season of soccer for the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs.
During her first season in Rock Springs McKay was usually the first defender off of the bench for the Mustangs as either an outside back or a center back. In the fall of 2019 McKay had 3 Shots, 1 Foul, 2 Starts and 34 Halves Played. She possess good height and speed which makes it easy for her to play either in the center of the back line or on the outside. She even hit the field a few times in the fall season as a forward.
In the classroom McKay does a great job with a GPA over 3.0 for the spring semester and overall for her first year. She is on track to graduate from Western Wyoming in the spring of 2020.
In the spring of 2019 McKay took on a role as a freshman spring captain. She did a good job of leading by example. Smith took this extra responsibility seriously and helped guide the team to be better and more cohesive. The spring scrimmages were good for McKay. She played both as an outside back and a center back for the Mustangs again. The majority of her time was spent as a center back. She excelled in this role and in the opportunity to grow as a player. McKay is expected to see plenty of field time this fall and help direct the Mustangs back towards the Region IX playoffs and a run at back to back Region IX Championships.
