Sydney Simmons was a 2-year letter winner for Bonneville High School. Sydney was part of the the Lady Lakers defense that only gave up 7 goals in Region 11 play and 10 goals for the entire 2018 season. Simmons and the BHS soccer team advanced to the UHSAA 4A Quarterfinals. Sydney netted one goal and had two assists as a senior.
During her junior season for the Lady Lakers in 2017, Sydney was part of the defensive core that advanced to but sadly lost in the UHSAA 4A State Championship game.
Simmons was one of two Lady Lakers that received Academic All-State Honors. Sydney has maintained a 4.0 GPA during her high school career. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Sydney has played for the comp team Nitro through the years. Nitro has had a ton of success over the years and won several tournaments including some high profile ones including being finalist in the US Soccer Regional President;s Cup in 2018.
Sydney said of her time with her club team Nitro, "I've been lucky to have been coached by my dad, he's given me the
opportunity to grow as a player and taught me and my friends lots of
life skills. He's very time oriented and that had been passed down to
all of us, we show up 15 minutes early to everything. I think my dad
has done a great job taking average girls and making them who they are
today, I owe him a lot. I used to be a holding mid and I made the switch
to defense in high school and my dad taught my about the position and
strategy to prepare me."
Simmons now plays most of the time as an outside defender. Western Wyoming is happy to add Sydney to the Mustang family. She will help replace graduating outside defender Kaitlyn Pryor and should press for time and a starting position as soon as she arrives on campus in August. Sydney fits all of the ideals of the WWCC Athletic Department - Good person, Good student and Good athlete. Sydney plans to study radiology in college and specialize in ultra sound.
