On Saturday in Rock Springs the 2018 Mustangs had their final home regular season match when they hosted the Lady Plainsmen from Northeastern Junior College.
After a nice sophomore ceremony before the match the Mustangs started all 10 of their sophomores on the pitch; Madeline Kendrick, Claire Morales and Maylee Thompson at forward. Jordan Gibson, Jaden Auger and Emma Barnes in the midfield. MaKayla Barnes, Jaclyn Edwards and Kaitlyn Pryor in the back line with Lindsey Lemmons as the keeper. Maylee Thompson scored the first goal in the match in the 22nd minute from a Claire Morales assist. A MaKayla Barnes free kick in the 30th minute from about 35 yard out doubled the Mustang lead. The halftime score was WWCC 1 and NJC 0.
NJC continued to play defensively in the second half trying to spring quick counter attacks. With the already 2 goal lead, the Mustangs were content to keep possession of the ball and put some passes together in the opposing half. Neither team would find the net in the final 45 minutes. The final score would be Western Wyo 2 and Northeastern 0. With this shutout win the Mustang overall record is improved to 9 - 6 - 1.
Mustang Valuable Player: Lindsey Lemmons - Lindsey recorded six saves, her 5th shutout of 2018 and her 14th career shutout.
