On Friday evening in Gillette Wyoming the Western Wyoming Mustangs played against the Lady Pronghorns of Gillette College in a Region IX North match.
It was a very close battle for most of the first half. The cold temperatures seemed to effect both teams equally. There are not many opportunities during the first forty five minutes of play and the teams went into the halftime break tied at 0 to 0.
In NJCAA soccer the teams are to play two 10 minute overtime periods. The deadlock can be broken by a goal. The match ends with a goal, meaning the overtime periods are sudden victory. If after 110 minutes of play the score is still tied then the result of the match will be a tie.
Five minutes into the first overtime period the Mustangs earned a corner kick. Jaden Auger sent in the ball that ended up at Kylee Manning's feet. Kylee calmly put the ball into the net above the GC keeper's hands and the match was over in the 95th minute.
The OT win brings the Mustang's record up to 7 - 5 - 0 and in Region IX North play to 4 - 1 - 0.
Mustang Valuable Players: Markell Freeman and Kylee Manning - Markell for the save to help us get to overtime and Kylee for the match winning goal in the 95th minute.
