MaKayla Barnes has signed a National Letter of Intent to play her second season for the Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.
As a student MaKayla does a great job. She is on track to graduate in May of 2019. She improved her GPA by almost .5 during her second semester and we expect her GPA to continue to climb as she earns her Associate Degree from Western.
During her freshman campaign MaKayla played mostly as a midfielder. This is not her most natural position but is what she was willing to do for the team. In the fall of 2017 Barnes had 26 Shots, 2 Assists, 26 Fouls, 19 Starts and 44 Halves Played. She did fill-in on the back line for the 2017 Mustangs when there were injuries, illnesses and yellow cards during her first year at Western.
In the winter of 2017 and the spring of 2018 MaKayla continued to push herself to improve her soccer skills and to increase her core strength in the weight room. MaKayla was a starter in the center of the defense most of the spring scrimmages of 2018. During these four scrimmages the Mustangs only allowed 1 goal, which was a long shot versus the University of Utah.
As a sophomore Western hopes that MaKayla will continue her strong performance on and off of the field. She should be a force on the back line but we know that she will help out the team and play wherever she is needed. Welcome back Kay Kay!
