On Friday in Scottsbluff NE the Lady Cougars of Western NE played host to the visiting Mustangs of Western Wyo.
In a crazy and high scoring match the Mustangs struck first with goals from Alyssia Lee in the 9th and 14th minutes. The first Lee goal was a header assisted by MKenzie Safford. The second goal was a great high shot by Lee was assisted by Clarissa Barton. The early WWCC lead was erased by two WNCC goals in the 25th and 35th minutes. There was 1 player from the WNCC team that the Mustangs had trouble controlling. The halftime score was 2 to 2.
In the second half the Mustangs took back the lead in the 58th minute with a Madisyn Cantrell goal with an Alyssia Lee assist. The Mustang lead only lasted about 9 minutes as WNCC answered in the 67th minute to tie the match again. The back and for affair would not result in another goal. After 90 minutes the score was 3 to 3.
The teams played two overtime periods but neither team had enough gas to score. So, after 110 minutes the match resulted in a 3 to 3 draw. The draw currently keeps the Mustangs in 5th place in the Region just a point out of hosting a playoff match. The 2016 records are now 6 - 9 - 2 and 4 - 5 - 2 in Region IX play.
