The Mustangs were relatively healthy entering the match and played very well. The Golden Eagles controlled much of the possession of the match and had almost 9 times more shots then the Mustangs but the Mustang defense was very tough on the day and did not allow very many quality chances.
After a hard fought 90 minutes the two team played two 10 minute overtime periods. Western did have the best chance of the overtime sudden victory when Katelin Nielson stole the ball from a USU-E player and sprinted to the goal, her shot was just too close to the keeper who made a save and preserved the tie for both teams. The Mustang's season starts with a tie for an overall record of 0 - 0 - 1.
