Last Minute Goal Give Mustang Road Region Win in Nebraska

Photo from Jen Atkinson
On Friday in Columbus Nebraska the Mustangs met the Lady Raiders of Central Community College.  This was the first time the two teams faced off against each other.  This was a Region IX match despite the near 700 mile distance between the campuses.

Western looked to continue their two match winning streak.  The Mustangs had the bulk of possession during the match and many chances but had a difficult time beating the CCC defense and an even more difficult time finding the back of the net.  The score remained tied at 0 to 0 for the entire 90 minutes of regulation.  Both Karly Conolly and Kylee Manning were very close to getting a goal to get a Western Wyo victory.

Just when it seemed that 120 minutes of play would result in a tie fortunes changed for the Mustang finishing.  It happened in the 119th minute when WWCC was fouled near midfield.  Porter Brown sent a high ball to the left side of the goal and to Hayden Rupe.  Hayden collected the ball and slotted it past the CCC keeper with just 43 seconds left in the double overtime.  The win improves the Mustang's overall record for the 2019 season to 6 - 4 - 0 and 3 - 2 - 0 in Region IX play.

Mustang Valuable Player: Hayden Rupe for the match winning goal just in the nick of time.
