Taya Merrell a recent graduate from Star Valley High School in Afton Wyoming has signed her National Letter of Intent to play college soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs Wyoming.
Recently Taya Merrell was named to the 3A West All Conference team and was also named to the 1st Team 3A All-State team for Wyoming because of her efforts during her senior year.
Merrell moved from Washington state to Star Valley her sophomore year. She was a member of the varsity SVHS Lady Braves soccer team for all 3 of her years in Afton. Taya lettered every year as a Lady Brave. With SVHS, Taya competed in the WHSAA 3A State tournament every years of her Wyoming high school career. She helped SVHS come home with two 6th place finishes and a 5th place finish at the WHSAA State Cup. Taya was a captain of the 2018 Star Valley Soccer team. As an underclassman she was able to play with Maylee Thompson who will be a sophomore on the WWCC team in fall of 2018. Taya says that she, "cannot wait to play with her again". As a senior Taya lead her team in goals and assists. Merrell had 5 goals and 6 assists in 2018.
Taya would like to be a Social Worker. She said that in high school, "I had the opportunity to work with the children with special needs and learned many greats skills that will help further my career in social work."
We expect many great things from Taya as a person, student and a player. Merrell will most likely play as a midfielder for the Mustangs but would also make a dependable outside forward when called upon. Welcome aboard!
