McKay Smith from Draper Utah and a soon to be graduate from Corner Canyon High School has signed her National Letter of Intent to play college soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.
Smith is a defender who was nicknamed the brick wall by several coaches and players due to her ability to stop attacks from the opposition. McKay has played with the club teams Ajax and Joga. She both captained and anchored her teams. With her club teams Smith has played in the following tournaments; Nomads in San Diego CA, Vegas Cup, President's Cup in Mesquite NV, Icebreakers in St. George and taking first place in the local Mayor's Cup. Through her club team experiences she has grown in a great team player who is a hard worker. McKay is also able to be versatile on the pitch as she
has played a defensive and attacking midfielder.
Besides soccer McKay has participated in National Honors Society, been on the high school honor roll all four years and been a member of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).
As a member of the Corner Canyon High School track team Smith has qualified for the UHSAA state track meets in both the 100 meter and the 200 meter sprints. She was a letter winner in track at CCHS.
McKay plays the cello in the CCHS Chamber Orchestra and in District Honors Orchestra. She has competed in Regional Solo Ensembles for several years. Smith has also served on the Orchestra Student Council.
McKay said, "I enjoyed volunteering and serving as team manager for the HS Boy's Basketball team as well as working for Draper City as a referee for basketball, flag football and soccer. I really look forward to being a part of Western's team." Western is very excited to have McKay as a member of the 2018 squad and look forward to adding to the WWCC Women's soccer both on and off of the field.
