On Friday in Denver CO at Metro State University Soccer Complex the Mustangs faced the LCCC Golden Eagles for the third time in the season. LCCC had won the previous two meeting fairly handily.
Western Wyoming knew that there was a possibility to surprise the LCCC team but had to play a great game from the entire team. A three minute span in the beginning of the match would spell disaster for the underdog Mustangs. LCCC scored three goals from the 9th to the 12th minute. The Mustangs would calm down and play better throughout the first half but the damage was done with the LCCC goals. The halftime score was LCCC 3 and WWCC 0.
In the second half the Mustangs continued to battle tough but were not able to chip away at the lead. Again a 3 minute span proved to be rough on the Mustangs as the Golden Eagles scored twice in the 50th and 53rd minutes. The final score for the match was LCCC 5 and WWCC 0. The final season record for the Mustangs was 12 - 8 - 1. This is the second year in a row that the Mustangs ended their season in Denver in the Region IX semifinals versus the LCCC team.
Sophomores; Madisyn Cantrell, Brooke Foster, Katelin Nielson, Kenzie Lucas, Britney Nisson, Jessica Arevalo, Vanesa Ramirez and Kelsey Moffitt all played their last official match for the Red, Black and White. These young ladies leave the program with 19 wins in 2 years the most successful stretch in WWCC Women' Soccer Program History.
Mustang Valuable Player: Madisyn Cantrell for her effort and being a pain in the side for the LCCC defense.
