Western Wyo Wins on Road in OT vs Sheridan

In the first playoff game for the Western Wyo Women since 2013 the Mustangs hit the road for a Saturday match versus the Sheridan College Lady Generals in Sheridan WY.  The previous two matches between these teams were 1 goal affairs with the Mustangs emerging victoriously.

Much like the match earlier in the year Sheridan scored first.  The Sheridan goal was in the 23rd minute.  The Lady General would not have the lead long as the Mustangs scored in the 30th minute.  The Mustang goal was from a free kick that Maddie Case sent into the Lady General box, Madisyn Cantrell flicked the ball to the middle of the goal where Alyssia Lee calmly kicked it into the net.  The halftime break would happen with the score even at 1 goal apiece.

In the second half the match again with these two rival got a little chippy.  The true opportunities in front of goal for either team were few and far between.  In the 89th minute both a Sheridan player and #5 Maya Perrin for the Mustangs were red carded.  Both teams would have to finish regulation and play overtime with 10 players.  The end of regulation the score was 1 to 1 as the teams headed to overtime.

The first overtime period resulted in no goals for either team.  In the second overtime with just six minutes left in the double overtime period Alyssia Lee sent a ball deep into the Sheridan half of the field that Madisyn Cantrell was able to track down.  Madisyn for the third time this year against Sheridan scored a late goal that was the match winner.  The Mustangs won the playoff thriller by a score of 2 to 1 in double overtime.  Brady Baldwin served as head coach during the match as Jeff Atkinson was in Rock Springs coaching the WWCC Men's Playoff match.  This was just the second time in the 10 year history of the Western Wyo Women's Soccer Program that WWCC has won a playoff match.  The Mustangs record for the season improves to 7 - 10 - 2.  The seven wins ties for the second most wins in Mustang Soccer history in 1 season.

Mustang Valuable Players: Jessica Arevalo for filling in as center back and Madisyn Cantrell for her 3rd match winning goal versus Sheridan this season.
