Western's Season Ends vs #3 LCCC

On Saturday in downtown Denver the Mustangs played in a Region IX Semi-final match against the #1 seed of the Region, and the #3 ranked team in the NJCAA - LCCC Golden Eagles.  This was the 3rd time that these two teams have played this season.  The Lady Golden Eagles winning the first two by a combined score of 8 to 0 in favor of LCCC.

The Mustangs knew that they had to play nearly perfect to be able to upset LCCC.  The game plan was a sound defense with a lot of players back but enough players forward to keep the Golden Eagles from sending all their numbers forward.  Sadly for the strong playing Mustangs their game plan did not pay off as LCCC was able to score some early goals and put a kink in the WWCC game plan.  LCCC scored in the 12th, 18th and 45th minute of the first half.  The game right before halftime was a back breaker for the WWCC morale who had found some confidence against LCCC after the early goals.  The score at the break was LCCC 3 and WWCC 0.

Western made some adjustments to try to get some attack and score.  The adjustments helped relieve some of the pressure of the LCCC attack but did not result in a goal for the Mustangs.  LCCC added a final goal in the 77th minute.  The final score for the semi-final match was 4 to 0 in favor of the #3 ranked LCCC Golden Eagler.  The Mustangs finished one of their best seasons in their history with a record of 7 - 11 - 2.

Playing their last official matches for the Mustangs are the sophomores; Rylee Blacker, Maya Perrin, Maddie Case, MKenzie Safford, Aly Sweet and Shantay Robinson.  This group of sophomore are leaving with 12 wins in 2 years which is the second best mark of any graduating class for Western Wyo Women's Soccer.  We will surely miss these players in the years to come.

Mustang Valuable Player: Vanesa Ramirez who played her heart out against a very good opponent.
